Natural, unposed nursery photography that parents love

Moving away from traditional posed photos means children can truly be themselves. The photographs are a mixture of creative portraits and beautiful documentary images. Along with laughter and smiles, I record some of the more contemplative expressions that come when a child is deep in concentration, absorbed in play.

I include the familiar setting of the nursery, creating special memories for children who otherwise might not remember this important part of their early life.

Nurseries benefit from the photographs too, which are free to use with parents’ consent.

Before the shoot

At our pre-shoot meeting, I find out the nursery or pre-school’s timetable so I can work around that. Getting to know the key workers is an important part of the visit too. While it’s lovely to hold the sessions outside, I always have a plan for indoor photography in case it’s rainy or cold on the day. So I’ll use the visit to scope out the space to find the areas with the best natural light.

On the day

Mornings are usually best because the children are more alert. There is minimal disruption to the normal nursery day because children are photographed doing their normal activities.

Choosing and buying images

After the photo session, I choose a selection of the best images of each child and upload colour and black and white versions to a password protected gallery.

The images can be ordered online as beautifully mounted prints in a range of sizes. They are also available as digital files, which can be printed as and when, or shared online with family and friends.

Parents simply choose the images they want to buy and pay online. Photographs can be collected from the nursery if ordered by the deadline or sent directly to parents if the deadline has passed.
