Why your ‘normal’ is worth documenting

If you had to leave the home you live in now, and could only take one memory of your family life with you, what would that memory be?

For our children, it's in the ordinary everyday that they feel loved and looked after. When you make their favourite meal or let them play with their soft toys in the bath even though they take days to dry - these are acts of love and they deserve to be remembered and treasured.

One day, the images that record an ordinary day will become your most treasured possessions.

Sadly and annoyingly, most of us have very few tangible memories of our everyday life before around age seven (some researchers call the time before this the 'age of amnesia'). So photos become the only way to create detailed memories of the the energy you pour into making your children happy.

Studies have also shown that we place surprisingly high value on records of even the most mundane details of everyday life. Try writing down a few sentences about what you did today (e.g. describe what you chatted about over dinner) and read it back to yourself a couple of months later - it's surprisingly interesting - so imagine how much more interesting these details would be in 20 years time!

Our fondest memories are often made in the kitchen.
